The eight-seeded South Tyroleans, who finished the regular season just in eleventh place, continued their remarkable run on Tuesday evening by winning Game 6 of the semifinals 6–1 on home ice, advancing to the Alps Hockey League Final for the first time in the club’s history. Meanwhile, HC Meran/o Pircher forced a decisive Game 7 against KHL Sisak. The South Tyroleans prevailed 4–3 in front of their home crowd – the deciding matchup will take place on Thursday in Croatia. Alps Hockey League semifinal newcomers HC Gherdeina valgardena.it and KHL Sisak will have their first opportunity on Tuesday to secure a historic first-ever finals appearance. Val Gardena leads the defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären 3–2 in the series and will have home ice advantage, while Sisak is on the road at HC Meran/o Pircher, aiming for its fourth win of the series. Leon Widhalm of EK Die Zeller Eisbären has been suspended for two games due to an incident deemed as Checking from Behind – IIHF Rule 43 – in Saturday’s semifinal match against Val Gardena. The forward will therefore miss Tuesday’s sixth semifinal clash in South Tyrol and, if Zell am See wins, the decisive seventh match on Thursday. Read more
