On the first matchday of the Alps Hockey League the Rittner Buam celebrated a 6:5 victory over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana defeated the HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice with 6:1; Lustenau won the Vorarlberg derby against the EC Bregenzwerwald with 4:1. In addition, the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it celebrated a 6:2 home win over S.G. Cortina Hafro. In the further matches the KA2, the VEU Feldkirch and the HC Pustertal Wölfe won.

Ljubljana with victory against Jesenice
HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana didn't give HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice a chance in the derby. They won the first match of the season with 6:1. Miha Zajc opened the scoring for Ljubljana after only 51 seconds. It was also the first goal of the fifth Alps Hockey League season. After the first period, the home side was already leading 3:0 and in the second period the guests got a better start. In minute 28, Zan Jezovsek scored in the powerplay to make it 3:1. The 2019 AHL champion from Ljubljana then increased the number of strokes again and won with 6:1 in the end.

11 goals between Broncos and Ritten
On the first matchday of the Alps Hockey League the Rittner Buam celebrated a 6:5 victory over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. The hosts got the better start and led after eleven minutes already with 2:0. Before the end of the first period Ritten managed to score the first goal. In the second period the guests turned up the heat. Within twelve minutes, the first AHL champion in the history scored 4 goals and led with 5:2. In the final period, the Broncos came back into the game and managed to equalize to 5:5. Andreas Lutz scored the decisive goal for Ritten's 6:5 away win one minute and 19 seconds before the end of the game.

Lustenau wins derby against Bregenzerwald
With 4:1 the EHC Lustenau won the Vorarlberg derby at the ECB Bregenzerwald. The EHC managed a lightning start. Already after 78 seconds Stefan Hrdina scored the 1:0 lead. Dominic Haberl increased the lead to 2:0 in the 33rd minute of the game. In the last period Lustenau scored two more goals.

Val Gardena with a surprisingly clear win against Cortina
Surprisingly clearly, with 6:2, the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it prevailed against S.G. Cortina Hafro at the start of the season. In the match the home side scored the first two goals. The visitors then got one back, but then Bradley McGowan (GHE) scored two goals and put the South Tyroleans clearly in the lead again. The Canadian completed his hattrick with the last goal of the game.

KA2 wins thanks to two Pirmann goals in Linz
The EC-KAC II won at the Steel Wings with 2:1 thanks to two goals from Markus Pirmann. The 0:1 was scored in minute two in the powerplay. After that both teams levelled off until the Klagenfurt team increased to 2:0 in the 37th minute. The only goal of the Upper Austrians was scored by Marcel Mayrhofer in the 57th minute in the powerplay. It was KA2's third victory over the Steel Wings in the third duel.

Feldkirch defeats Kitzbühel
After only 17 minutes, the VEU Feldkirch led the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel with 3:0 and in the end, the Vorarlberg team won with 5:3. Four of the five goals scored by the VEU were in the special team. Dylan Stanley scored one powerplay and one shorthanded goal. For Kitzbühel, all three goals were scored by Swedish newcomer Mikael Johansson.

Pustertal wins against Red Bull Hockey Juniors
The HC Pustertal Wölfe started the new AHL season with a 3:1 home win against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. In the 13th minute the hosts took the 1:0 lead. Right at the start of the second period the guests could equalize. Then the South Tyroleans set the tone again and scored two more goals, both scored by Raphael Andergassen. For Pustertal it was the seventh victory in the ninth duel against the Red Bull Juniors.
