The Alps Hockey League is currently in the middle of the intermediate round, with the start of the playoffs already in sight. Behind the scenes, preparations for the upcoming season of the multinational league are already underway. It is now confirmed that twelve teams will participate in the forthcoming eleventh season.

The ongoing campaign has delivered plenty of excitement and provides a positive outlook for the future. Until the very end, it was unclear which teams would secure first place in the regular season and the crucial fifth spot. In the end, the teams in positions five through eight were separated by only three points.

The numbers highlight the league’s competitive balance: 104 of the 246 games played so far were decided by just one goal. This means that 42 % of all matches were tense until the final second. In 57 games, the outcome was only decided in overtime or a shootout.

The league is also enjoying strong support from fans: the most attended game this season so far was HC Migross Asiago vs. HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, with 3,000 spectators. In a total of 18 games, attendance exceeded 2,000 fans, and in 62 matches, more than 1,000 spectators were present. With an average of 2,261 fans per game, EK Die Zeller Eisbären records the highest average attendance, followed by Asiago (1,628) and KHL Sisak (1,523). Overall, nearly 200,000 fans have attended games so far.

Twelve currently active clubs intend to continue on the successful path in the 2026/27 season. For Nicolas Stockhammer, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the AHL, the current developments in terms of excitement and fan turnout are a positive signal externally: “The high level of competition and the enthusiasm of the fans show that the Alps Hockey League is an important league for the participating nations. We are very pleased that twelve teams have registered for the upcoming season. The league organization will now begin detailed planning for the eleventh season in coordination with the Board of Governors. Together with the clubs, we aim to continuously develop the Alps Hockey League in a dynamic environment.”
