17 teams from Austria, Italy and Slovenia will participate in the sixth season of the Alps Hockey League. 14 teams of them were already part of the league last season. In addition, two teams who were already part of the league will return to the AHL. The EK Die Zeller Eisbären was part of the transnational championship between 2016 and 2020. Before the start of last season, however, the team from Salzburg withdrew to make a fresh start under new management. Their best finish in the AHL so far was the eleventh place in the season 2016/17.

The Vienna Capitals Silver have so far played one season in the Alps Hockey League. In the campaign 2019/20, the Austrian Capitals finished the season in 17th place. Due to Covid-19, they did not participate last season. In the upcoming season, the Silver Caps will cooperate with the Moser Medical Graz99ers. The 99ers will put a maximum of five players in for every game. The home matches will take place in Vienna as well as in Graz.

Hockey Club Merano is the only completely new face of the Alps Hockey League. The South Tyroleans finished the Italian Hockey League (IHL) in second place last season and will take the place of the HC Pustertal Wölfe for the Italian federation from now on.
Furthermore, the EC-KAC II announced to play under the name EC-KAC Future Team in the future.

Mode and season start will be communicated at a later date.

Alps Hockey League Commissioner Michael Suttnig about the upcoming season: "For the Alps Hockey League we are of course sorry that with Ljubljana and Pustertal two strong teams will no longer be part of the league. We would like to thank both teams for the excellent cooperation and we wish both clubs only the best and much success in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. We are pleased to welcome three new clubs for the upcoming season: Zell am See, the Capitals Silver and Meran. We are convinced that they will be an enrichment for the AHL and that the upcoming season will be very exciting and balanced from a sporting point of view."
