Goals, goals, goals
The first goal of the 2025 calendar year did not take long to arrive. Nick Petersen scored after just 90 seconds on January 1st as the EC-KAC opened the year with a 7–4 road win in Vienna – setting the tone for a high-scoring year.

In total, 2,077 goals were scored in 354 games throughout 2025. Once again, the 2,000-goal mark was comfortably surpassed, with teams averaging 5.87 goals per game.

The most prolific scoring day of the year was November 26, 2025, when 53 goals were recorded across the league. That night also featured the highest-scoring game of the year – and one of the biggest surprises of 2025 – as HC TIWAG Innsbruck defeated the EC-KAC 9–6.
(For the record: the quarterfinal opener between Linz and Graz also produced 15 goals in a 9–6 scoreline.)

Overall, the Innsbruck–Klagenfurt matchup turned into a true goal guarantee in 2025. An average of 9.5 goals per game were scored in this fixture – more than in any other head-to-head matchup throughout the year.

Most prolific offenses and consistent winners
The EC-KAC finished 2025 as the league’s top-scoring team with 228 goals. Only two other teams reached the 200-goal mark: EC Red Bull Salzburg with 207 goals, followed by the Steinbach Black Wings Linz with 203.

When it came to wins, however, EC Red Bull Salzburg led the way. The defending champions won more than 70 percent of their games in the 2025 calendar year. Many of those victories came during the previous season, which culminated in Salzburg celebrating their fourth consecutive championship – and tenth title overall, a league record since the ICE Hockey League was founded.

The breakout youngsters of the year
Beyond the numbers and results, 2025 will also be remembered as the year of the young breakout players – particularly following the start of the new season in September.

Leading the way was Paul Sintschnig of the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV. The 16-year-old Carinthian recorded a two-goal game on September 26, 2025, scoring his first two professional goals. Two more followed, along with a call-up to the national team. Unfortunately, Sintschnig suffered an injury during preparations for his first international appearance and was sidelined for several weeks.

The EC-KAC also showcased its strong development pipeline in 2025. David Waschnig (18) and Johannes Dobrovolny (17) both scored their first professional goals and made it clear that they would not be their last.

To close out the year, another young player stepped into the spotlight. Jonathan Oschgan of the Steinbach Black Wings Linz recorded a two-goal game on the final matchday before the year’s end and was rewarded with the win2day Game Day Hero honor.
