The third season meeting of EC-KAC and EC Panaceo VSV is scheduled in the 32nd round of Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. The 324th Carinthian Derby is already sold out and will be covered by Sky Sport Austria too. After achieving 18 points out of the last six games Fehervar AV19 hosts leader spusu Vienna Capitals. Further, there will be the third repetition of last years final and some important games for being in touch to the Pick Round places.

Facts of 32nd round: 

  • Sky Sport Austria covers 324th Carinthian-Derby between EC-KAC and EC Panaceo VSV
  • Leader spusu Vienna Capitals hits the road while facing Fehervar AV19. The Hungarians actual got 18 points out of the last six games and held the longest winning streak in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga.
  • EC Red Bull Salzburg tries to quit its losing streak in the third repetition of last years final. 
  • The HC Orli Znojmo and the Dornbirn Bulldogs can reduce their deficit to the sixth place in standings on the road.

  • Fehervar AV19 holds the longest winning streak of all teams. After winning six consecutive games, the Hungarian are only one point behind sixth place. 
  • AVS did not lose the last six home games too. Their last home defeat was on November 13th when they lost to Graz after overtime. The Hungarians grabbed 22 out of possible 24 points in the last eight games in front of their home crowed. 
  • After six consecutive victories, the spusu Vienna Capitals accepted an overtime-loss against Linz past game day. Anyway, they remain leader in standings. 
  • The home teams won the past two season meetings. Prior to that, the Capitals won eight consecutive games in Hungary. 
  • Fehervar decided the past four games on an early stage, after leading at least 3:0 each. 
  • Anze Kuralt (13 G | 16 AS) scored in the past six games and gained 14 points in that time. He is Fehervar’s second best scorer. 
  • The spusu Vienna Capitals strengthened their roster with Sondre Olden. The Norwegian international played at Zagreb at the beginning of the season. The 26-year old forward showed up in 16 games earning 14 points. He had 57 points out of 53 games for the bears last season. 
Hannu Järvenpää (Headcoach Fehervar AV19): “We have to be happy about the result against Znojmo, but we have to change some bits for the game against Vienna. We must not release out feet from the gas for the third period, we have to keep going if we want to have a chance against a top team like Vienna. I think we lost our humbleness for the third period and we cannot let that happen on Friday if we want to continue our good streak.”

Nikolaus Hartl (spusu Vienna Capitals): „We need to reduce our penalties. We had too many shorthanded situations against Linz. Therefore we lost too much energy, which brought the Black Wings back to life.”

  • The Moser Medical Graz99ers can reduce their deficit to leader Vienna with the third season win against KHL Medvescak Zagreb. 
  • After turning around a two-goal difference twice, the Styrian booked wins in the last two games.
  • Zagreb did not win for eleven games and only got one point in that periode (6:7 SO defeat against Znojmo).
  • With Ty Loney and Matt Garbowsky scoring each season meeting, the Austrian side got two clear wins. 
  • Graz is among league’s second-best team in powerplay (26,4%). But they did not score on man advantage in the past four games. 
  • While Ken Ograjensek is still out for weeks, Graz will miss Erik Kirchschläger due to a hand injury too. He might be out for around six weeks.
Matija Milicic (KHL Medvescak Zagreb): „We struggled being one man down in the past game, receiving four goals shorthanded. We need to get better in these situations.”

  • The 3rd west derby of the season is about important points for a place in the Pick Round. HCI is ten, DEC seven points behind the sixth place. 
  • While Innsbruck got a huge home win against EC Red Bull Salzburg past game day thanks to four goals of Mario Lamoureux, Dornbirn extended its winning streak to four. 
  • The Bulldogs got their second shutout within the last three games.
  • Dornbirn won the first two season encounter. 
  • Rasmus Rinne is among league’s netminder with the most time on ice. He has a save percentage of 91,3%. He received only three goals in the past four games.
Florian Pedevilla (HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie”): „Obviously, we were the better team in the past two season meetings. But we were not able to finish strong. That’s what we need to improve. To be successful, we need to concentrate more on the defensive end.”

Rick Nasheim (Assistant-Coach Dornbirn Bulldogs): „It will be a tough derby with a lot of emotions. Innsbruck has a lot of quality on the offensive end. We need to focus on defense and we hope for another great game of Rasmus Rinne.”


Fr, 28.12.2018: EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz – HC Orli Znojmo (19.15)

  • The EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz hosts HC Orli Znojmo. Both battling for a place in the Pick Round.
  • The eight ranked Czech side is six points behind sixth ranked Linz. 
  • While the upper Austrians got a 3:2 overtime-win in Vienna, the “red eagles” suffered a defeat against Fehervar past game day. With the victory at the Capitals the Black Wings got back on winning ways after four consecutive losses. 
  • Each season meeting was won 3:1 by the home team.
  • Linz won the past five home games against Znojmo. The last road win of Znojmo was on March 24th, 2016 (5:2).
  • After killing each penalty in the past two games, the Black Wings are still league’s best team in shorthanded situations.

  • Both the EC Red Bull Salzburg and the HCB Südtirol Alperia lost the last game.
  • While Salzburg secured only two points out of the last four games, Bolzano’s winning streak came to an end on Wednesday against Dornbirn. 
  • Both teams will make their Pick Round place safer. While third ranked HCB is seven points ahead seventh place, the fourth ranked RBS four points.
  • The away teams won the first two season encounters. 
  • Salzburg has the best offense available (123 goals), while Bolzano is the best team on the defensive end (73 goals against).
Dominique Heinrich (EC Red Bull Salzburg): „We need to improve on the defensive end and be more active and careful in the attacking zone. All five players need to switch back in defense quicker.”

Luca Frigo (HCB Südtirol Alperia): “We would have deserved the three points against Dornbirn, but to win you have to score. Salzburg is a spot that evokes good memories, but this is a new season. We go there to win and get three important points for the ranking.“

  • The EC-KAC and the EC Panaceo VSV will meet for the 324. Carinthian Derby. 
  • After taking an early lead each, the EC-KAC suffered defeats in the past two games. The “eagles” won against Zagreb last game day. While the VSV got eight of twelve possible points in the last four games, the EC-KAC gained only three points in that time. 
  • The home teams each won the first two derbies of the season. The EC-KAC won the past five home games against Villach, which is KAC's longest home winning streak against VSV since 2000. 
  • EC-KAC’s Nick Petersen scored in each derby so far. 
  • Both teams still miss key players: Christof Kromp (VSV) and Manuel Geier (KAC).

MacGregor Sharp (EC Panaceo VSV): “Even though, the result against Zagreb was satisfied, we made some mistakes that should not happen against Klagenfurt. In addition, we had some bad luck in front of the net hitting the post four or five times. Especially in Klagenfurt we need to be ready from the start to have a chance for the win. “
