The 86th Ice Hockey World Championship kicks off on Friday. In the night game between hosts Latvia and Canada, KAC forward Rihards Bukarts is the first of a total of 43 players from the win2day ICE Hockey League in action. For the league nations Austria (against France), Slovenia (against Switzerland) and Hungary (against Denmark) the tournament starts on Saturday

Seven nations with ICE players
Austria provides the most ICE players (16) per team. As many as ten cracks come from champion Salzburg. "If the lines play together like at the club, it can be an advantage. We have a lot of quality in the team overall and were able to train well in preparation. I am convinced that everyone will be ready - no matter in which formation," said Mario Huber, who was the playoff top scorer and is now participating in his first World Championship.

The Slovenian selection features 14 league players, while Hungary has seven. But the three nations are not the only ICE protagonists. The Danish roster includes Jesper Jensen Aabo (Klagenfurt), Anders Krogsgaard (Innsbruck) and Nicolai Meyer (Salzburg), three more players who were active in the playoffs of the win2day ICE Hockey League just a few weeks ago. The ICE line-up is rounded off with Frenchman Guillaume Leclerc (Fehérvár) and Norway's Michael Haga (Linz).

League also represented among the referees
With David Nothegger, a linesman from the win2day ICE Hockey League is also on duty at the World Championship. The Salzburg native was nominated for the first time for the top division. Before leaving for the Worlds, the 32-year-old provided insights into life as a referee. Among other things, Nothegger talked about the past league season, the upcoming career highlight and the topic "emotions on the ice" (in German).
