HC Meran/o Pircher trails 0–3 in the best-of-seven final series against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. To extend the series, the Eagles now need a win in Wolkenstein on Saturday. Alex Egger, who scored his second goal for Merano on Thursday, spoke about the current situation.

“We got off to a good start and created some quality chances early on, but unfortunately we couldn’t convert them,” Alex Egger said about Game 3 on Thursday, which Merano lost 2–6. “Towards the end of the first period, we conceded an unlucky goal. In the second period, just like in the previous game, we had a brief lapse that simply cannot happen and ultimately proved decisive. After the 5–1 and 5–2, we gave it everything once again, but in the end it just wasn’t enough,” the 21-year-old added.

Being down 0–3 in the first final series, so close to the ultimate goal, naturally hurts: “Of course it hurts to be down 0–3 in the series with the goal so close after such a long journey. Nevertheless, we still believe in ourselves and will give everything. In the end, those short lapses made the difference.”

Game 4 on Saturday (19:30/Valcome.tv) will now be the first do-or-die matchup, but the South Tyrolean remains optimistic and believes in a turnaround: “We’re going to give everything in Val Gardena —it’s a classic do-or-die situation. If we manage to play for the full 60 minutes the way we did in Games 2 and 3 after falling behind, then we definitely have a chance to turn the series around.”
