EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV concludes the preseason on Sunday with a home game against Moser Medical Graz99ers (5 p.m., stream). The Carinthians have won their six matches so far, and captain Alexander Rauchenwald is also satisfied: "As in recent years, we'll have a strong team. The new additions are well integrated, the banter is going well in the dressing room. As we are now younger and bigger on average, we will be more present on the ice. We have a good tempo in training and we can build on that."

Last season, Villach secured a direct play-off spot on the penultimate game day of the regular season. In the quarter-finals, however, it was the end of the line against Bolzano. "The league continues to develop every year, the teams from one to 13 have moved even closer together. That makes the battle for the play-off places very difficult. Every game in the regular season is evenly matched and is only decided in the third period. That makes it very exciting," says Rauchenwald.

The Blue & Whites start the new season on Friday with an away game in Ljubljana. For Villach's captain, who played his first league games in 2012/13, the duels outside Austria are also something special: "It's always exciting to travel to Hungary, Slovenia and Italy. They have good teams and great fans, which is certainly an enrichment for the league."
