Release from 15.02.2022
Last week the national AHL champions were determined in Austria and Italy. Therefore, only one rearranged match was played in the Alps Hockey League. This week, the AHL returns from the break with an action-packed week. Eight games are scheduled from tomorrow, Wednesday, through Friday. Another round will be played on Saturday.

Qualification Round A:
Wed, 16.02.2022, 19:30: EC Bregenzerwald - Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan

On Wednesday, the newly crowned Austrian AHL champion EC Bregenzerwald and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan will face each other in Qualification Round A. Bregenzerwald prevailed in a thrilling final duel against the EHC Lustenau with a total score of 5:3. The Broncos were also in action last week. Although they missed the jump to the Serie A final tournament, they played against Kitzbühel in the Alps Hockey League. In an even match they won with 4:2. Until 72 seconds before the end of the game, however, the score was still 2:2. In the standings, Vipiteno is in second place. The lead over ECB is only one point.

Master Round:
Thu, 17.02.2022, 19:00: HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice - S.G. Cortina Hafro

With only two wins from the first four games, the winner of the first phase of the basic round, HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, started the Master Round cautiously. In the standings, they have had to give up the lead to Asiago. The Italians are already five points ahead of the Slovenians. With Cortina, Jesenice has the fifth in the table as a guest on Thursday. From four games in the Master Round SGC got one win. In the current season, both teams faced each other only once, on September 25th. At that time Jesenice prevailed with 3:1. For the Slovenians it was the ninth win in the 13th AHL duel with the Italians.
Thu, 17.02.2022, 20:00: Rittner Buam - EHC Lustenau

Both the Rittner Buam and the EHC Lustenau are currently on playoff course. The EHC has nine points on their account as third in the table. RIT follows one point behind in fourth place. The lead over fifth-placed Cortina is already six and five points respectively. Both teams suffered defeats last week. While Lustenau lost in the final of the Austrian AHL championship against Bregenzerwald with a total score of 3:5, Ritten lost in the deciding game for the Serie A championship against Asiago with 1:2. In the current season, Ritten always had the Vorarlberg team under control. In both duels they prevailed with four goals difference (4:0 & 7:3).
Thu, 17.02.2022, 20:30: Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey - SHC Fassa Falcons

The new and old Serie A champion Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey will face the bottom oft he Master Round, the SHC Fassa Falcons on Thursday. Asiago, in turn, leads the field in commanding fashion with four wins from four games. The lead over the first chaser Jesenice is already five points. In the Serie A, Asiago won their third title in a row, even though they were defeated by Val Gardena with 2:3-OT. In the deciding match they kept the upper hand against Ritten, which is why they secured the Scudetto with only one point ahead of the Buam. Fassa failed to qualify for the Serie A final tournament and had no game last week. Before that, they conceded defeats in all four games of the Master Round. Only against Lustenau they got a point.

Thu, 17.02.2022, 19:15: Red Bull Hockey Juniors - EC-KAC Future Team

In Qualification Round A, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and the EC-KAC Future Team will face each other on Thursday. While the Young Bulls lead the table with 13 points and the qualification for the pre-playoffs is already within reach, the Future Team is only at the bottom of the table with three points. However, they got the only victory last against Bregenzerwald (4:3-SO). It was the first win for the Klagenfurt team after seven defeats in a row. In the H2H, both RBJ and KFT were victorious at home this season.
Qualification Round B:
Thu, 17.02.2022, 19:00: Steel Wings Linz - EK Die Zeller Eisbären

The Steel Wings Linz are the surprise team of Qualification Round B so far. The Upper Austrians picked up three wins from their first four meetings and are in second place in the standings. The EK Die Zeller Eisbären have one point less on their account and follow in third place. Currenttly both teams would qualify for the pre-playoffs. However, fourth-placed Feldkirch is in waiting position with seven points. The Polar Bears recently suffered two defeats in a row. They lost with 0:3 against league leader Val Gardena, while the 1:3 away defeat at second-bottom Vienna was much more surprising. The Steel Wings, on the other hand, were last successful against Feldkirch with 8:2 and thus ended VEU's eleven-game winning streak.

Top-ranked HC Gherdeina valgardena.it can take another big step towards the pre-playoffs with a win at fourth-placed BEMER VEU Feldkirch. The South Tyroleans lead the table of Qualification Round B with 17 points. Feldkirch is in fourth place with seven points. The VEU was recently the team of the hour with eleven wins. However, this was followed by a surprising 2:8 defeat against the Steel Wings Linz. Val Gardena competed in the Serie A final tournament last week. Despite a win against champion Asiago, the Furie ended the tournament in third place. In the Alps Hockey League, the South Tyroleans won all of their past five games.

HC Merano/o Pircher will go into Friday's game against the Vienna Capitals Silver with a new head coach. The league newcomer parted their ways with Canadian Kim Collins due to the recent disappointing results. In his place, the previous assistant coach Max Ansoldi will take over the activities of the head coach. Ansoldi was already head coach of the Eagles between 2014 and 2020. With five losses in a row and a total of only two points, the league newcomer is only in sixth and last place in the Qualification Round B standings. The Vienna Capitals Silver have one point more and are fifth in the table. Both teams are already eight and nine points short of the pre-playoffs. Friday will be the first meeting between the two teams. Both scheduled games of basic round 1 had to be cancelled due to medical precautions.
