Salzburg were warned in the first game of their Italian road trip, as they suffered a 5:1 defeat on their first visit to Asiago this season. The home side also took the lead on Tuesday, with Alex Ierullo scoring in the eighth minute. But the reigning champions equalised just 48 seconds later. After a Baltram solo, Troy Bourke made it 1:1 with his 14th goal of the season. Scott Kosmachuk (18th) even turned the game in the visitors' favour in the first period. In the middle period, Kosmachuk had a fight with Nicholas Porco, and Asiago scored the only goal in the second: Nick Saracino found the back of the net with a hard shot 40 seconds to go to make it 2:2. After the restart, the Red Bulls went ahead once again, Mario Huber surprising goalie Costantini with a shot into the short corner. The game remained tense, the hosts repeatedly created chances and Saracino equalised again three minutes before the end of regulation time. The game went into overtime and after five goalless minutes, the shootout had to be decided, where Matteo Gennaro secured the extra point for his team.
