Asiago needed two points to qualify for the pre-playoffs on their own. The Italians won seven of their last eight games in front of their home crowd and set the tone from the first minute in the game against the Pioneers. The hosts also took the lead on the first power play after just under eight minutes, with Samson Mahbod scoring on a rebound after a Misley attempt. In the 17th minute, Bryce Misley himself increased the lead to 2:0. The Pioneers showed a strong improvement in the middle period and now kept the game open. The visitors were even rewarded for their efforts, Kevin Macierzynski and Guus van Nes made it 2:2 within two minutes, but 20 seconds before the second period break Mahbod completed a nice combination to take the Asiago lead again. However, the Vorarlberg team continued to show great morale, Julian Metzler equalized in the final period to 3:3. But again the Italians had a prompt answer through Luke Moncada. In the 53rd minute, Giovanni Vallati scored the most beautiful goal of the evening to give the Italians a two-goal lead, he finished skillfully after Misley's assist. Although Andreas Heier was able to pull one back again, an Allan McShane empty-netter made the final score 6:4. Asiago will finish the regular season of the win2day ICE Hockey League in ninth place and participate in the pre-playoffs. Already tomorrow, Friday, the team of head coach Tom Barrasso will meet again the last-placed side from Vorarlberg.
