Austria started the „Deutschland Cup“ in Krefeld with a surprising 3:2 opening win after overtime against Slovakia. The Olympic bronze medalist Slovakia took the lead in the 15th minute of the game. But less than four minutes later Austria equalized through Switzerland legionnaire Bernd Wolf (19.). At the beginning of the middle period, it was EC Red Bull Salzburg pro Dominique Heinrich who gave Team Austria the lead in the power play. This lead lasted until five minutes before the end of the game, before Slovakia equalized. In the last minutes of regular playing time, the Slovaks had several good chances to turn the game around, but David Kickert in the Austrian goal was always on the spot. In the overtime it took only 32 seconds before Lukas Haudum of the EC-KAC scored Austria's first win over Slovakia since the 2013 World Championship. At that time it was a success after shootout. Next opponent for Team Austria is host Germany on Saturday (18:00). ORF Sport + will broadcast live.
