Austria celebrate win over host Germany
At the Germany Cup, featuring 21 players from the win2day ICE Hockey League, Austria suffered a tough 2–6 loss to Slovakia in its opening game. Peter Schneider and Lucas Thaler (both RBS) scored for Team AUT. However, in the second group game, head coach Roger Bader’s team responded perfectly with a sensational 5–2 win over host Germany. Paul Huber (G99) and Leon Wallner (VIC) also found the back of the net for Austria, making it a strong showing for the ICE League representatives. It was Austria’s first win over Germany after three straight losses. In their final game on Sunday at 11:00 a.m., Austria will face Latvia — a team they defeated convincingly 6–1 at the World Championship in May, a win that secured their spot in the quarterfinals.

Italy finish tournament in Poland in second place
Olympic host Italy finished second in Sosnowiec behind hosts Poland in one of their final tests ahead of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina this February. The Azzurri lost their opener 2–4 to Poland but followed up with a 5–4 overtime victory over Great Britain, with Dustin Gazley (HCB) scoring the game-winner. In the third game, Italy faced another ICE nation, Slovenia, and came away with a narrow 3–2 victory. Three of the five goals in the game were scored by ICE players: Matt Bradley (HCB) and Tommy Purdeller (HCP) for Italy, and Jaka Sodja (OLL) for Slovenia. For Slovenia, it was the only defeat of the tournament. They had previously beaten Great Britain 5–1 and Poland 3–2 in overtime, with Jan Cosic (OLL) scoring the decisive goal. Like Italy, Slovenia finished with five points, but due to the lost head-to-head matchup, they had to settle for third place.

Hungary finish last despite win over tournament hosts
There was reason to celebrate for Hungary in their third game at the tournament in Épinal, as they earned a surprising 6–4 win over host and tournament winner France. However, Hungary was unable to build on that success, losing 2–4 to Norway and 1–5 to Denmark, finishing in fourth and last place in the group.
