Following wins over Great Britain and Hungary, Austria continued its strong run against Latvia. In a highly intense and physical contest, the team once again showed great strength in its own zone. In the 28th minute, Tim Harnisch of champions Moser Medical Graz99ers gave Austria the lead. After Latvia equalized, Salzburg forward Benjamin Nissner restored the lead on the power play, and Vinzenz Rohrer sealed the 3–1 final score with an empty-net goal. With three wins, Team Austria remains perfect and will face host nation Switzerland on Wednesday. “It was awesome. We stuck to our game plan from start to finish and made it difficult for Latvia. We were strong defensively and disciplined. I’m happy I could help the team with my goal. In the first two games I was more pass-oriented, this time I just gave it a try—and it paid off,” said Harnisch, whose current run of success continues: “My performances in the win2day ICE Hockey League earned me a spot on the World Championship roster. I joined the national team shortly after winning the title with Graz and was able to carry that momentum with me.”

Hungary with important win

Krisztián Nagy of FTC-Telekom opened the scoring in the third minute, and Hungary extended its lead before the end of the first period. Early in the second period, Fehérvár forward István Terbócs made it 3–0 with a shorthanded goal. Hungary eventually won 5–0, with Nagy and Terbócs each scoring twice in the final period, while FTC goaltender Bence Bálizs recorded a shutout.
