Barrasso starts comeback with Asiago in Kitzbühel

NHL goalie legend Tom Barrasso has returned to Asiago as head coach. The NHL experienced coach and Aisago's 2017/18 champion maker will make his comeback on Tuesday as a guest of EC Kitzbühel. There are also six other Alps Hockey League matches scheduled for Tuesday.

The only scheduled Monday game in the Alps Hockey League was canceled due to medical precautions.

After HC Merano/o's Monday game in Vienna was cancelled, the league newcomers will start their post-X-Mas road trip through Austria on Tuesday in Linz. Merano was defeated in its last two games before Christmas and won only one of its last six games. The same record also whitewashes the Steel Wings Linz. The Upper Austrians had to admit defeat on "Boxing Day" with 3:8 in Fassa. The first duel of the season between these two teams was won by the Linz team.

Ex-coach Petri Mattila left the Yellow-Reds at his own request after the game against Jesenice for personal reasons. Mattila had to accept three defeats in the past four games with Asiago - but the reasons for his leaving are not of a sporting nature. Returnee Tom Barrasso already coached Asiago from 2016-2019 and led the team to the AHL championship title in 2018. EC Stadtwerke Kitzbühel now wants to end its three-game losing streak after the "Boxing Day" defeat. Against Asiago, however, this will not be an easy undertaking. Of the previous eleven AHL duels, the Eagles could only win two games. In the last six meetings Kitzbühel had to admit defeat in each case.

Gherdeina, on the other hand, won only one of their last five games, but were defeated twice in overtime. The first duel of the season between these two teams also went 7:5 to Gherdeina, although they were already down 0:2.

EC Bregenzerwald and SHC Fassa Falcons will play the only Alps Hockey League game on Wednesday. While the Falcons are challenged twice within 24 hours, it is the first game for Bregenzerwald in over a month. With 18 games so far, the Vorarlberg team has played fewer matches than any other team. However, on average, the Wälder have scored 1.66 points per match - even more than the Falcons, who were on a six-game winning streak before Tuesday's game.
