The EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV achieved their long-awaited breakthrough last Sunday, heading into the international break with an impressive performance. After a rocky start to the season and sitting at the bottom of the standings, the Eagles soared with a remarkable 10-2 victory against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey, not only marking their third consecutive win but also hitting double digits in goals for the first time this season. The standout player of the night was 24-year-old Villach native Benjamin Lanzinger, who delighted the home crowd with his first career hat-trick, setting a new personal best in his professional career.

For Lanzinger, who was born in Villach and came up through every level of his hometown club, this night was a memorable highlight. He and his line got off to a blazing start that paved the way for the team's victory. “The game started really well for our line. We scored three goals in our first two shifts,” Lanzinger explained. This early dominance gave the Eagles the confidence they needed, allowing them to continue building momentum throughout the game.

Unique Atmosphere in Villach’s Stadthalle
The special atmosphere that evening seemed to further inspire the players, making the home game an unforgettable moment for Lanzinger: “Getting my first career hat-trick feels incredible, especially at home in front of our fans,” he said with visible enthusiasm. “In Villach’s Stadthalle, the energy was palpable with every goal. A big thank you to the Villach fans,” he added. As someone who played in VSV’s youth program, Lanzinger deeply appreciates the passion of the Villach supporters.

The Derby Win as a Turning Point
Villach’s turnaround actually began two games earlier, when they won the Carinthian derby in overtime. Just a few days later, the Eagles defeated the reigning three-time champions, EC Red Bull Salzburg, before following it up with the 10-2 win capped by Lanzinger’s hat-trick.

Lanzinger Aims for Consistent Performance
Despite the excitement, Lanzinger remains modest and focused on his personal goals. “A hat-trick is great, of course, but for me, it’s important to build consistency in my performance,” he explained. “Scoring is part of that, of course, but it’s also about how I respond to different situations on the ice. The hat-trick definitely boosts my confidence for the next steps.”

A Tough Schedule After the Break
With the international break offering the Eagles a chance to recharge and prepare for the challenges ahead, they’re set to face another tough opponent in their upcoming away game against HCB Südtirol Alperia next Wednesday.
