Benjamin Lanzinger is a Villach born and played exclusively for his hometown club EC GRAND Immo VSV except for two short loan agreements (Klagenfurt and Zell am See). He made his debut in the first team already at the age of 16, on September 25th, 2016 in a 1:4 loss against Moser Medical Graz99er. He scored his first professional goal a good three weeks after his debut in a 6:5 OT win against HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie. In the past season, the 22-year-old was Villach's top domestic scorer with 14 goals and 13 assists - and played a big part in finishing second after the Regular Season and qualifying for the Champions Hockey League.

"This is a very, very special award for me. Also because, in addition to experts, so many fans have given me their vote. Many thanks to all of you for that, you are great! I would also like to thank my teammates, because especially in hockey you can only succeed together as a real team. This election means a lot to me and shows that I'm on the right track. At the same time, it is also a huge motivation to continue working hard to improve myself and to deliver strong performances for VSV. I am already looking forward to the new season," said Lanzinger.

Benjamin Lanzinger succeeds Lukas Piff, who earned this individual award in 20-21 for the spusu Vienna Capitals. Lanzinger is the first Young Star of the season of the EC GRAND Immo VSV in the voting that has been conducted since the 06-07 season.

Due to less gamedays in September 2021, the first two months have been combined into one election. The five monthly winners will then compete end of March 2022 for the title of "Opel & Beyschlag Young Star of the 2021/22 season".

The election consists of three components: in addition to the fan voting on the league homepage, the Puls24 experts, as well as journalists will also cast their votes. If two or more players receive the same number of votes, they will be ranked according to the result of the fan vote.
