Salzburg got of a better start but there were just a few real scoring chances. Things changed after eight minutes when Ryan Duncan made the breakthrough on power play. Soon later Dan DaSilva missed the first big chance for Linz but then the visitors turned the game around within 67 seconds thanks to goals by Brian Lebler and Stefan Gaffal. With 0.7 seconds to go in the first Red Bulls new arrival Martin Stajnoch tied it at two. After the restart the hosts had the better of the play once again. However, it 14 more minutes to retake the lead when Peter Mueller found the back of the net. The third period was a mere 13 seconds old when Rick Schofield scored the equalizer and it even became better for the guest. With two Salzburg players being in the sin bin for 2+2, Fabio Hofer scored with a two man advantage. Linz wasted even more chances and conceded the equalizer in another power play when Duncan lit the lamp. With 34 seconds to go it was Corey Locke, who decided it to Linz' favour, though.
