In the only Saturday game of the win2day ICE Hockey League, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz celebrated a 4:2 win at Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and thus scored important points in the fight for direct playoff qualification. For Asiago, on the other hand, it was a step backwards in the fight for the pre-playoffs. BWL forward Graham Knott was the only player to score twice. Tomorrow, Sunday, five more games will follow in the ICE. Three games start already at 13:00.

After the 1:3 defeat of Steinbach Black Wings Linz in Bolzano on Friday, they were able to take three points from Asiago only 24 hours later. The Upper Austrians prevailed 4:2 at the 12th in the table. As fifth in the table, they are now eight points ahead of the seventh place. The gap of Asiago, who celebrated two wins at the Pioneers during the week, to the tenth place and thus the pre-playoffs is five points.

In an even game, neither team managed to score in the first period. After over 28 minutes of play, the home side had their third powerplay, but it were the Black Wings who scored first through Graham Knott. Just three minutes later Martin Schumnig increased the lead to 2:0 for Linz.

However, Asiago did not give up and even managed to equalize in the final period with two goals by Anthony Salinitri (41.) and Giordano Finoro (50.) before Graham Knott put the Black Wings back in front with his second goal of the evening with just under six minutes to go. For the 25-year-old Canadian it was the second brace in the dress of Linz. BWL top goal scorer Stefan Gaffal finally made everything clear one and a half minutes before the end with his 11th goal of the season.
