Bolzano and Pustertal celebrate tournament victories

On Sunday, two teams of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League celebrated a tournament victory. While HC Pustertal prevailed in the traditional Tatra Cup, HCB Südtirol Alperia won the memorial tournament for Hansjörg Brunner in Merano. HK SŽ Olimpija Ljubljana managed a shutout in the test against EC-KAC. HC TIWAG Innsbruck and EC GRAND Immo VSV were defeated.

Without eleven players of the first team, the EC-KAC also lost their third and last game at the Eastern Cup in Slovakia, against HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana on Sunday with a 0:3 defeat. The Slovenians took the lead already in the third minute through former Klagenfurt player Žiga Pance - on the only goal in the first period he beat KAC goalie Jakob Holzer with a sharp wrist shot. In the middle period, HK Olimpija had a clear advantage and ensured the preliminary decision with a brace by Gregor Koblar (26th) and Gregor Žeželj (28th). The score remained 3:0 for Olimpija until the end, the Slovenians won two out of three games at the tournament.

Bozen and Pustertal celebrate tournament victories
HC Pustertal got off to a perfect start in the final of the traditional Tatra Cup against MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš from Slovakia: Matthias Mantinger scored in the second minute on powerplay to take the lead. The Slovakians managed to equalise in the first period, but after the restart, Mikuláš scorer Juraj Jurik had to go to the penalty box again. And HCP took their chance with a goal by Leonhard Hasler (24th). Shortly before the end of the period, Michael Caruso even increased the score to 3:1. The Wolves kept their nerves in the third despite taking a few penalties and celebrated the tournament victory.

At the memorial tournament for Hansjörg Brunner in Merano, HCB Südtirol Alperia started furiously against the Rittner Buam: In the fifth minute, captain Anton Bernard scored from close range and only 72 seconds later Marco Matonti increased the lead to 2:0 from the blue line. In the middle period, only twelve seconds were played when Markus Spinell scored pulld one back for the team from the Alps Hockey League. On the other side, Joseph Mizzi restored the two-goal lead. The preliminary decision was made in the last period when Leo Messner made it 4:1 from the Foxes' point of view in the 46th minute. Bernard and Mizzi scored two powerplay goals to make it 6-1.

Innsbruck misses revenge against Straubing
HC TIWAG Innsbruck ended their first test match weekend with a 2:5 defeat at Straubing Tigers. Only two days after the 0:2 at home, the Innsbruck side fell behind again. Although the DEL team also scored the second goal, HCI newcomer Zach Magwood (35./PP, 43./PP) equalised with two powerplay goals. Straubing had more stamina and won the second game with three more goals.

VSV loses preseason opener narrowly
With youngster Lukas Moser, who replaced standard goalies Andreas Bernard and Alexander Schmidt, Villach started the preseason against the Augsburg Panthers in front of 2,500 spectators. After the visitors took the lead in the seventh minute, Chris Collins turned the game around with a powerplay double after the restart. But the DEL team also struck back with two goals within a few minutes. Augsburg even scored the fourth goal in the 53rd minute, while the home side only managed to make it a one-goal game again through returnee John Hughes (55th) on the power play.
