The Vienna Capitals celebrated a successful pre-season opener: in a league-internal test against Hydro Fehérvár AV19, the Viennese team earned a 4:3 shootout win after a thrilling game. The match-winner was Leon Wallner, who scored both in regulation time and in the shootout. Randy Gazzola and Senna Peeters had previously given the visitors an early lead on PP, but Janos Hari and Rasmus Kulmala equalised in the middle period. Wallner scored again for the visitors, while the Hungarians scored their third goal through Akos Mihaly.

EC Red Bull Salzburg, on the other hand, started the preseason with a narrow 2:1 defeat after overtime against HC Košice. The Salzburg team showed an appealing performance with several newcomers, dominated the game and scored a deserved equaliser through Thomas Raffl (PP) in the final period. However, the Slovakians decided the game in their favour in overtime.

HCB Südtirol Alperia opened its preseason at the Corvara ice stadium. The team of new coach Kurt Kleinendorst celebrated a 5:0 victory over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan from Alps Hockey League. Daniel Mantenuto put the team from Bolzano into the lead after ideal preparatory work by Gazley, Daniel Frank increased it to 2:0 in the first period, with Cristian DiGiacinto, Dylan DiPerna (PP) and Mark Barberio scoring the other goals.
