HCB Südtirol Alperia pulled off a 6-5 overtime thriller in the Champions Hockey League, knocking off Czech powerhouse Kometa Brno in an offensive showcase. It marked Bolzano’s second win in three CHL outings.

Just one week before the start of the win2day ICE Hockey League season, several teams wrapped up their final tune-ups. While the Pioneers Vorarlberg, Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and HC Pustertal picked up confidence-boosting wins, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz ended preseason on a sour note.

On CHL gameday three, Bolzano delivered a statement performance. In front of their home crowd at Sparkasse Arena, the Foxes edged Brno 6-5 in a high-scoring battle.

The opening frame already turned into a shootout with plenty of chances both ways. Brno struck three times through Flek, Kollár and Zbořil, but Bolzano answered with goals from captain Daniel Frank and Shane Gersich to stay in it.

The Foxes took over in the middle period, responding to a Brno power-play marker with two goals of their own – including one on the man advantage – to head into the second intermission up 5-4.

The drama peaked late. Brno tied the game with a Zohorna goal in the dying minutes to force overtime, but Bolzano had the last word: Maxwell Gildon buried the game-winner and sealed the 6-5 victory for the Foxes.

Pioneers, Fehérvár and Pustertal close preseason with wins
Pioneers Vorarlberg impressed in their final test before the league opener, cruising past Eispiraten Crimmitschau 7-2 in Feldkirch. Maier and Burke each scored twice, with Florchuk and Gallant also finding the back of the net. A 5-0 lead after 40 minutes left no doubt, while the visitors only managed late consolation goals.

Fehérvár showed strong comeback character in their last exhibition, rallying from 1-3 down against Banská Bystrica. In a dramatic finish, the Hungarians forced overtime before Josel Messner netted the decisive goal to complete the turnaround.

The South Tyrol derby between HC Pustertal and Wipptal Broncos provided late fireworks. Despite controlling play, the Wolves trailed heading into the third. But they came alive late, and Bowlby became the hero, scoring with just ten seconds left for a dramatic 3-2 win – a true derby finish.

Linz, meanwhile, fell short in their final dress rehearsal, losing 1-4 to Augsburg. Despite some chances, the Upper Austrians couldn’t find their rhythm and had to concede the win to the Panthers.
