In the top match of the round, HCB Südtirol got off to the better start against the spusu Vienna Capitals. In the third minute, a Trivellato shot on the powerplay found its way into the net. Although the home side took command as the period progressed, they were unable to score a goal. Luke Moncada did score in the 33rd minute when the Caps forward hit the pad of HCB goalie Kevin Boyle from behind the goal line. The home-strong Capitals had the advantage, but with the score at 1:1, the game went into overtime. When HCB captain Anton Bernard had to go to the penalty box, the Viennese missed the chance for the decision. Just as Bernard returned to the ice, he surprised Caps goalie Bernard Starkbaum and scored four seconds before the end to give the South Tyroleans, who remain in second place, the away win.

Innsbruck takes revenge
For the second time within 48 hours, Hydro Fehérvár AV19 met HC TIWAG Innsbruck. On Wednesday, the Hungarians clearly kept the upper hand with 4:0 in Innsbruck, but the Tyroleans presented themselves as if changed. Already in the fourth minute Martin Ulmer put the guests in the lead, Simon Bourque (14th) increased it after a beautiful solo run. In the middle period, Tim McGauley was the first to score, before Nico Feldner finished a wonderful counterattack. But Fehervar did not give in and came back to 3:4 until the 55th minute. But an empty-netter from McGauley secured the away win for Innsbruck, who also ended a five-game losing streak with the revenge.

Ljubljana and Linz lose first game of the new year
Steinbach Black Wings Linz got off to a near perfect start in their first game of the year. Captain Brian Lebler gave the Upper Austrians the lead after just five minutes in Znojmo and Ramon Schnetzer increased it to 0:2 a little later. But the pressure of the home side increased from minute to minute. After Radel Prokes got them on the scoreboard, Radim Matus even equalised 34 seconds before the end of the period. Shortly after the restart, Anthony Luciani turned the game in favour of the home side with a wonderful goal and Znojmo even made it 5:2 in the middle period. Lebler gave the visitors back some hope, but Znojmo celebrated a clear 7:4 victory in the end and won their second duel of the season. All eleven goals were scored at equal strength, besides Lebler also Radim Matuš and Anthony Luciani each scored a brace for the now ninth-placed Czechs.

With HK SZ Olimpija, a second team also played its first game in the new year. But the Slovenians started badly in Graz, already in the third minute Andrew Gordon put the home side in the lead - his shot slipped through HKO-goalie Hölsa. While Michael Schiechl increased the lead to 2:0 in the first period, Simon Hjalmarsson even scored the third 99ers goal in the middle period. Dominik Grafenthin ensured the final decision in the 53rd minute. Although a goal by Tomazevic ruined the possible shutout of Christian Engstrand, who once again played very well, it was not enough for a comeback by the visitors. The Graz side celebrated their first win in their fourth match of the season with a 4:1 victory. The Styrians are still in eighth place, Ljubljana slipped down to sixth.
