ICE runner-up HCB Südtirol Alperia inflicted the first defeat on EC Red Bull Salzburg, which was still perfect in the Chmapions Hockey League up to this point. In the fifth and penultimate CHL group game, the Foxes prevailed 5:3 in the ICE-internal duel. However, the hosts had the better start: Peter Hochkofler gave Salzburg a 1:0 lead in the eleventh minute. The South Tyroleans turned the game around in the first period and took the lead with goals from Mathew Maione and Brett Findlay. Findlay added to the score in the middle period to make it 3:1. Salzburg made it exciting again in the final period. Both Peter Schneider (2:3) and Danjo Leonhardt (3:4) scored to narrow the gap to one goals, but it was not enough for overtime. The runners-up of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League finally prevailed 5:3 and inflicted the first defeat on Salzburg in the fifth CHL game. The South Tyroleans have managed to score in all five games so far. Despite the defeat, Salzburg is still razor-thin ahead of Bolzano due to the better goal difference.

EC-KAC needs one more point for eighth-finals
On Wednesday (18:30 live on ORF Sport+) EC-KAC will fight at HC Donbass Donetsk (UKR) to reach the Round of 16. The EC-KAC still needs one point from the final two games against HC Donbass Donetsk to reach the Round of 16 on its own in the Champions Hockey League. The "Redcoats" are still unbeaten in the current CHL season, have ten points as first in Group G and thus five points ahead of the Ukrainians.
