With a 5-3 road win in Vienna, HCB Südtirol Alperia extended their lead in the win2day ICE Hockey League and at least fixed the second place after the end of the regular season. In the race for the top-6, EC-KAC, thanks to three goals in the first twelve minutes, scored an important victory against direct rival Linz. Meanwhile, the fight for the pre-playoffs remains exciting, as Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey, Moser Medical Graz99ers and HC Pustertal Wölfe celebrated victories.
HCB Südtirol Alperia secured at least second place in the win2day ICE Hockey League after the end of the regular season with a 5-3 road win at spusu Vienna Capitals. The league leader, now on 100 points, qualified for Europe’s highest level for the fifth time overall with its third win in a row. Bolzano was leading 4:-1 after two periods in Vienna and survived also the strong final frame of the "Capitals", which came close again significantly by goals of Max Zimmer (50.) and Darik Angeli (56./PP1).
Vienna had to give up its fifth place in the table to EC-KAC, which fought their way to a 4-2 win away at Steinbach Black Wings Linz. The "Rotjacken" benefited from a strong opening frame, as Lucas Lessio (7.), Fabian Hochegger (7.) - he scored for the third consecutive game - and Rok Ticar (12.) provided a comfortable advantage early on. But the Upper Austrians, which are also still fighting for the top 6, brought themselves back into the game with goals from Andreas Kristler (49.) and Marco Brucker (54.). After the fifth defeat in a row, Linz, in seventh place, is now already four points behind sixth-place Vienna.
Asiago destroys Villach’s winning-streak
Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey put an end to the winning streak of EC iDM Wärempumpen VSV, as the ICE newcomer outclassed the "Adler", which started with goalie Alexander Schmidt, with 6-1 and celebrated their first victory over Villach this season. The opening goal for the Italians was scored by Samuele Zampieri with his first league goal. Six different players scored for the "Stellati", also newcomer Samson Mahbod made his debut goal. Asiago successfully used both powerplays
Graz again with advantage in the fight for pre-playoffs
The Moser Medical Graz99ers regained an advantage in the battle for the pre-playoffs with a 6-2 thumping victory over EC Red Bull Salzburg. The third win of the season over the reigning champions, which suffered their third defeat in a row, lifted the Styrians back up to tenth place. Against Salzburg, Pennerborn’s team, still without Andrew Yogan and this time also without Tobias Fladeby, was incredibly efficient, as they needed only 14 shots on goal for their six goals, three of which they scored on powerplay. Michael Schiechl (1G|3A) and Gustav Bouramman (1G|3A) recorded a 4-point game.
In tenth place, Graz is now one point ahead of HC Pustertal Wölfe, which won 4-3 at Hydro Fehérvár AV19 after a shootout. The South Tyroleans fought for the two points: In the final period they first gave away the 2-1 lead before Johan Harju (60./PP1) scored with 48 seconds on the clock to equalize. In the shootout, the "Wolves" then stayed focused and won their third game in a row.
