Release from 24.02.2023
The Regular Season in the win2day ICE Hockey League brought further decisions on Friday. The HCB Südtirol Alperia will finish the Regular Season in first place. The South Tyrolean team won against HK SZ Olimpija on Friday with 6:1 and thus won the Regular Season of the ICE Hockey League for the second time. The second place goes to the EC Red Bull Salzburg, who, along with Bolzano, will definitely play in the Champions Hockey League next season. The Red Bulls celebrated a narrow 3:2/OT home win against the spusu Vienna Capitals. The HC TIWAG Innsbruck won 5:4/OT at Hydro Fehérvár AV19, but has no chance to move up to the second place. In the fight for the tenth place and thus the last Pre-Playoff ticket, the decision will be made on the last matchday on Sunday. Both the Moser Medical Graz99ers and the HC Pustertal failed to score points on Friday, which is why Graz remains one point ahead of the Wolves.
In the fight for the tenth place it remains exciting until the end. The Moser Medical Graz99ers were defeated by the EC-KAC with 2:4 on Friday, but still have it in their own hands to get tenth place and thus qualify for the Pre-Playoffs. In the parallel game the HC Pustertal lost against the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV with 3:5 and is still one point behind the 99ers. On Sunday, the South Tyroleans will face 12th Olimpija at home. Graz, in turn, plays against last-placed Pioneers Vorarlberg. Against the KAC, the Styrians were already trailing 0:2 after the first period on Friday, before they were able to equalize the game within 19 seconds in the second period. In the final period, however, it was once again the KAC who scored twice. The 3:2 game-winner was scored by Paul Postma, who also scored to make it 1:0 in the interim. With the victory, the KAC will finish the Regular Season in fifth place.
The VSV is immediately ahead of the KAC in fourth place. Both teams are separated by eleven points. In the last game of the Regular Season against the Wolves, the Eagles were even trailing 2:3 after 34 minutes. In the last 14 minutes, however, the VSV managed to turn the game around with goals from Maxa, Desjardins and Rivett-Mattinen. In the fourth duel of the season with Pustertal it was the third win for Villach.
Bolzano wins Regular Season | Salzburg clinches CHL ticket
As expected, the HCB Südtirol Alperia won against HK SZ Olimpija (6:1) and finished the Regular Season of the win2day ICE Hockey League in first place. Before the last matchday on Sunday, the Foxes are five points ahead of the EC Red Bull Salzburg. For the South Tyrolean team it is the second time that they finished the Regular Season of the ICE Hockey League on top. The first time they achieved this success was in the 2020/21 season, where they ultimately lost to the KAC in the finals. In the 2019/20 season, Bolzano also entered the playoffs as the top seeded team, as they won the Master Round. However, they finished the Regular Season in fifth place at that time.
Bolzano has already secured its ticket for the Champions Hockey League. On Friday, the EC Red Bull Salzburg also succeeded in doing so. The reigning champion beat the spusu Vienna Capitals 3:2/OT at home and can no longer be ousted from second place. Their lead over third-placed Innsbruck is four points. The Capitals finish the Regular Season in sixth place. All four goals in regular playing time were scored in the last 190 seconds of the first period. First, Salzburg went ahead with a double strike within nine seconds before the Capitals quickly answered. In the overtime it was Ali Wukovits who provided the decision five seconds before the end.
Fehérvár still with the chance for seventh place
The third place in the table will be taken by the HC TIWAG Innsbruck, who were victorious at Hydro Fehérvár AV 19 with 5:4/OT, but would have needed a win after regular playing time to still have a chance for the second place and thus the CHL ticket. Fehérvár, on the other hand, still has a chance for the seventh place and thus the right to pick for the Pre-Playoffs thanks to the point win. The Hungarians are three points behind free from play Linz, whom they will face on Sunday. With a win after regular playing time they would move past the Upper Austrians, as Fehérvár has won all three duels so far in the direct duel.
In the sixth game of the day Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey prevailed against the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg with 5:3. It was the second win for the Italians over the bottom of the table within 24 hours. On Thursday, the ninth-placed team in the table celebrated a 6:4 win.
