The 14th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League brought four away wins and only two home victories. In the South Tyrol derby, HCB Südtirol Alperia won 4:2 at HC Pustertal. The league leaders thus also won the second local derby of the season. Twelfth-placed HC TIWAG Innsbruck also celebrated a surprising 4:1 away win at EC-KAC and EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV prevailed at reigning champions EC Red Bull Salzburg. In the other games, Steinbach Black Wings Linz, Olimpija Ljubljana and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 kept the upper hand. It was the seventh win in a row for the Hungarian team in second place in the table.
HCB Südtirol Alperia also secured victory in the second derby of the season and maintained its lead in the table with a 4:2 win at HC Pustertal, still three points ahead of its closest rival Fehérvár. Matt Bradley put the visitors 1-0 up in the fifth minute in the sold-out Intercable Arena in Bruneck. The mood among the 3,100 fans rose when Matthias Mantinger equalized for Pustertal in the eleventh minute. Michele Marchetti restored the lead for Bolzano in the 25th minute. It was not until the 42nd minute that Adam Helewka was able to increase the lead to 3:1 with a goal in a double powerplay situation. Pustertal continued to fight and reduced the deficit to 2:3 seven minutes before the end of the period. Shortly before the end, the sixth-placed team in the table had a power play and thus the chance to equalize, but Luca Frigo made everything clear with an empty-net goal. It was the third derby win in a row for Bolzano.
Close away win for Villach in Salzburg
EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV confirmed its upward trend with a 3:2 away win at champions EC Red Bull Salzburg. Villach led 2-0 after 25 minutes before the Red Bulls equalized in the middle third. First it was Benjamin Nissner who made it 1-2 with his first goal of the season, before captain Thomas Raffl made it 2-2. Chase Pearson (50.) finally decided the game in the visitors' favor. It was the center's sixth goal of the season. Villach, who celebrated their second win in a row, are eleventh in the table, while Salzburg suffered their first defeat after two wins in a row and are fifth.
Innsbruck surprises in Klagenfurt
HC TIWAG Innsbruck, twelfth in the table, celebrated a surprising 4:1 away win at EC-KAC. It was the first win for the Tyroleans after three defeats in a row, while the KAC suffered its fourth defeat in the last five games and is currently seventh in the table. In front of around 4,200 spectators in the Heidi Horten Arena, the visitors took the lead through Lukas Bär in the 18th minute. However, Thomas Hundertpfund equalized for the home side just eleven seconds later. After that, however, the Innsbruck “Sharks” took control: In the 32nd minute, Japan's Hirano Yushiroh put the Tyroleans back in front and less than three minutes later Patrick Grasso even increased the lead to 3:1. The KAC subsequently found no means of getting past the HCI defense and goalkeeper Evan Buitenhuis. Grasso scored the final goal 17 seconds before the end of the game with an empty-net goal. It was the center's second brace of the season.
Shootout victory for Linz against Graz
In a thrilling match at the LINZ AG Eisarena, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz were able to celebrate a narrow 4:3 victory after penalty shootout against the Moser Medical Graz99ers in front of 4,000 enthusiastic fans. The game only really got going in the 36th minute when Luka Maver made it 1:0 for Linz while shorthanded - his fifth goal in nine games. Immediately after the start of the final period, captain Brian Lebler increased the lead to 2:0, but the visitors from Graz did not give up. The visitors equalized with goals from Sam Antonitsch (47.) and Marcus Vela (51.). Brian Lebler put the Black Wings back in front in the 53rd minute, but Casey Bailey equalized for the 99ers 48 seconds before the end. The game then went into overtime, but no decision was made. In the shootout, two Black Wings players were successful, while no Graz player scored. For Linz, currently in ninth place, it was their second win in a row. Despite their third defeat in the last five games, Graz remain in third place in the table.
Victories for Ljubljana and Fehérvár
Olimpija Ljubljana beat bottom-placed Pioneers Vorarlberg 4:2 and celebrated their first win after two consecutive defeats. The team in fourth place in the table took the lead shortly before the end of the first period, but had to concede the equalizer just a few minutes after the restart. However, the home side then dominated the game and were able to pull 3:1 ahead with a double strike in the 29th and 31st minutes. However, the visitors made it exciting again through David Keefer four minutes before the end of the game. However, the Pionneers were unable to avert their third defeat in the last five games, with OLL finally scoring an empty-net goal with just under a minute to go.
In addition, Hydro Fehérvár AV19 was also unstoppable by Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. The second-placed team in the table beat the Italians 5:3 and celebrated their seventh win in a row. Although Asiago, who suffered their ninth defeat in 14 games, took a 1:0 lead, Fehévár pulled away to 4:1 by the 51st minute. The home side then pulled back to 3-4 with a double strike in the 58th minute, but the Hungarians made it all clear with an empty-net goal just a short time later.
