Bozen in the semifinals, Linz in holiday

EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz started strong into the fifth Quarterfinal vs. HCB Südtirol Alperia, but Brett McLean and Co. could not beat goalie Marcel Melichercik. Bozen on the other side took advantage from their chances: In minute 13 Brodie Reid finished a 3-on-2-attack into the upper corner – 1:0. Both teams then could not take advantage from a Power Play. Period 2 was more open and the Foxes were able to extend the lead: First Andrew Yogan finished a counter in minute 27 and then Travis Oleksuk finished a great combination after a pass from Brodie Reid from a short distance even for the 3:0. The Black Wings did not give up, but Brian Lebler just hit the post. Finally Rick Schofield deflected the puck after a shot from Sebastien Piche from a short distance for the 1:3. But Bozen quickly had an answer: Seconds before the second break Lindsay Sparks perfectly deflected a shot from Ryan Glenn for the 4:1. In the third period  the Upper Austrians had a perfect start, after just 67 seconds Joel Broda made the 2:4. Linz now took many shots (15:6-shots in period 3), but Melichercik allowed just one more goal from Ryan Potulny in minute 56. Bozen so won Quarterfinal number 5 at Linz 4:3 and the best of seven series clearly with 4:1 and made it into the semifinals, while for the Black Wings from Linz the season is over for the first time since the year 2011 already in the Quarterfinals.

 

HC TWK Innsbruck „Die Haie“ is building already their team for 2017/18 and extended the contracts with Andrew Clark, Ondrej Sedivy and Lubomir Stach.
