Bratislava wins first game against Dornbirn after shootout

The Bratislava Capitlas won the first match within 24 hours against the Dornbirn Bulldogs with 4:3-SO. The league newcomer from Bratislava was already leading with 3:0 in the meantime, but had to accept the 3:3 equalizer just 27 seconds before the end of the game. In the end, however, the Slovaks were able to win after shootout and took the lead in the qualification round (14 points). Dornbirn is in second place (13 points).

In the first of two games between the iClinic Bratislava Capitals and the Dornbirn Bulldogs within 24 hours, the league newcomer from Slovakia had a dream start. Already after 76 seconds, 19-years-old U20 World Championship participant Michal Mrazik put the Capitals in the lead. It was the second goal of the right wing in his ninth appearance of the season. In the following minutes, the Bulldogs dominated the game. However, the Vorarlbergers did not score a goal in the first period.

The middle period began the same as the starting period. Bratislava again shot an early goal. The 27-years-old Denis Hudec scored his seventh goal of the season. Only six minutes later Adam Bezak even increased to 3:0 for the Slovaks. From the second half of the game, however, the Capitals got numerous penalties. The league's tenth best power play was able to take advantage of two overtime situations and cut the deficit to 2:3 before the end of the second period. The goals were scored by Matthew Mackenzie (32) and Nikita Jevpalovs (40).

In the final period, both teams hardly found any chances. But shortly before the end of the game, the puck once again was in the net. Andrew Yogan scored the 3:3 equalizer just 27 seconds before the end of the game. It was already the 18th goal of the season for the 29-year-old American. In the following overtime BRC had a powerplay, but missed to score the deciding goal. The decision had tob e made in the shootout, in which Milos Bubela (BRC) was the only player to score. For Bratislava it was the first win in the fifth duel with Dornbirn. In the standings of the qualification round the league newcomer took the lead (14 points). Dornbirn is in second place (13 points) Already tomorrow, Thursday, at 18:45, both teams will meet again in Dornbirn.
