After two heavy defeats to start the season in Jesenice (0:3) and Sisak (0:5), EC Bregenzerwald will play its first home game on Wednesday. The opponent, Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, sits in second place with seven points – just one behind leader Sisak. After two clear wins to open the season, the Tyroleans most recently fell 2:3 in a shootout at Cortina. Last season, they won two of three meetings against Bregenzerwald.

Sisak vs. Jesenice – the top match
League leader KHL Sisak has won its first three games, dropping only a single point in Salzburg against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. Jesenice, meanwhile, has played twice: a narrow 3:4 loss in the season opener at Zell am See, followed by a 3:0 home win against Bregenzerwald. Last season, the two clubs met three times in thrilling games, each ending 3:2 – with Sisak winning twice.

Zell am See travels to Gherdeina
Defending champion EK Die Zeller Eisbären remains the only unbeaten team without dropping a point. After wins over Jesenice (4:3) and Sterzing (3:2), their first road game now awaits at HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. The South Tyroleans have three points after three games: losses at Kitzbühel (2:6) and Meran (1:3) contrast with a clear 6:1 home win against Cortina. Against Zell am See, however, Gherdeina stood no chance last season (0:5, 0:3, 2:5).

South Tyrol derby: Merano vs. Sterzing
The fourth round also features a South Tyrol derby. HC Meran/o Pircher meets the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, with both teams sitting at five points after three games. The clubs already met in preseason, when the Broncos prevailed 4:1. Last season, Meran won three of the five encounters.

Unterland hosts Cortina
The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers celebrated their first win of the season with a 3:2 road victory in Ritten last Saturday but have already suffered two home defeats. Cortina, meanwhile, beat Kitzbühel 3:2 in a shootout to record their second win in three games. Unterland held the upper hand in last season’s head-to-head series, winning two of three.

Ritten challenges the Red Bull Hockey Juniors
Also on Thursday, Rittner Buam SkyAlps host the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. Ritten has collected four points from three games (8th place), while the Juniors sit fourth with five points. Last Saturday, Salzburg earned a clear 7:2 win in Asiago. Last season, Ritten won two of three head-to-head matchups. Ahead of the clash, Ritten has strengthened its offense by signing 31-year-old Brett Welychka, who most recently played with the Guildford Flames in the British EIHL.
