EC Bregenzerwald went into the clash with Sterzing full of confidence. With five wins in a row, the Vorarlberg side, who are also the best home team in the league, recently improved to fifth place. The visitors from South Tyrol, who won a high-scoring game against Val Gardena on Sunday, are one place above them.

Sterzing set the tone in the first period on Wednesday, but Bregenzerwald could rely on goalie Alexander Schmidt. After a goalless 20 minutes, the hosts improved in the middle period and an open exchange of blows developed. While Broncos goalie Jakob Rabanser also had some saves, the South Tyroleans were unable to capitalise on their first powerplay of the game - the score remained 0:0 at the end of the second period. Shortly after the restart, the Vorarlberg side were awarded their first powerplay. After Roberts Lipsbergs was able to hold onto the puck in the offensive zone, it was played to Marlon Tschofen via Felix Zipperle. The 21-year-old forward did not miss this chance, going top shelf for his eighth goal of the season from a completely free position. The home side then missed chances for a second goal - for example in a 3-on-1 situation. In the final phase, Sterzing pressed for an equaliser with six skaters, but Schmidt kept a clean sheet and recorded his second shutout of the season. The 1:0 victory also extended Bregenzerwald's winning streak.
