In a week when these teams will face off twice, on Monday they faced off in Zagreb and on Friday the game will be in Dornbirn. Dornbirn went into the game as an underdog and that looked like the case from the beginning. Medveščak was pressuring, but Dornbirn served them their own medicine. After they dumped the puck into Medveščak’s zone Poulin went to shoot it out along the boards, Medveščak defenseman failed to pick it up and carry out to safety. Reid Brodie picked it up on the blue, Häußle picked it up after bouncing weirdly, passed to Macierzynski and it’s 0-1 for the Bulldogs. Medveščak went to pressure hard but despite outshooting the Dornbirners by 17-10 the puck just wouldn’t go in. Medveščak had faild to score on powerplay twice in the second and just before they’d go on their third powerplay and third failure to convert Dornbirn scored their second of the night: Just seconds after Sylvester got back Dornbirners went on a breakaway. First it was up to Connelly to test Poulin, then Sylvester got the puck on the bully circle, skated in the corner and passed a blind backhander to Reid in the slot. Easy goal for the forward over Poulin’s shoulder for 0-2 Bulldogs. Third goal was another mistake by Poyhonen. He dumped the puck straight onto Caruso’s stick who spotted lone Sylvester on Medvescak’s blue line, passed the puck straight to him and it’s 0-3 Dornbirn. Easy pass and a goal just over Poulin’s pads for big three goals difference. Third period remained scoreless, the Bears pushed but couldn’t convert while Dornbirn became the last team to have a win over the Bears in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga this season and the first team to beat the Bears in Dom Sportova in regulation.
