Canadian Mattinen strengthens VSV defense

Canadian Nicolas Mattinen will play for the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV and will thus play in Europe for the first time in the coming season. So far, the 24-year-old has been active exclusively in his native Canada. His greatest successes were two OHL titles. In addition, the defender has already gained experience in the American Hockey League. In 2016, the right-shooter was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In the last three years, the 24-year-old was active for the University of Ottawa and provided 29 points in 42 games. Due to his strong performances, the defender, who was drafted 179th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs, was promoted to the Laval Rockets in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he impressed with four scoring points in eight games. He also has won two OHL titles with the Hamilton Bulldogs and London Knights.

In the upcoming season, the defender will play for the "Eagles": "I'm really looking forward to Villach and the team. I am already very excited, I have informed myself extensively about the club and the city in the past few days - also by means of videos - and I want to do my part to be successful together this year. Especially the VSV fans and also the sensational atmosphere in the arena have excited me!"
VSV Head Coach Rob Daum on the new signing: "Nick is a young, hungry defender who wants to take his next career step in Europe. We are convinced that he will make our team even better with his size and strength but also with his playing skills. He is also a very good skater."

The new VSV defender will arrive in Villach at the end of July.
