The Capitals traveled to SC Kolin for the first friendly before the start of the new win2day ICE Hockey League season. The two teams also met in last year's preseason, when the Viennese won 3:1. This time, the Czechs got off to the better start, taking the lead on the power play in the eighth minute. But Armin Preiser scored the first Caps goal of the preseason to equalize before the break. Shortly after the restart Niki Hartl turned the game in favor of the guests. After Kolin tied it at two, Capitals debutant Dominique Heinrich restored the lead - 2:3. Thanks to another goal by Leon Wallner, the team of new head coach Marc Habscheid went into the second intermission with a two-goal lead. In the final period, however, the Viennese gave the game away. First, Kolin equalized within three minutes, and shortly before the end of regulation, the home side even netted to make it 5:4.
