The spusu Vienna Capitals, who started the season with two defeats, took command right from the start. In an early power play Matt Bradley just missed the lead. Although the home side continued to dominate the game (12:1 shots on goal in the first period), their attempts were too inaccurate or Pioneers goalie Alex Caffi made a save. 40 seconds after the start of the middle frame, the Capitals got the cold shower: Christian Bull deflected a Jacome shot to give the visitors the lead. Vienna continued to set the tone, but still lacked a scoring threat. It was not until the 33rd minute that the Steffl Arena cheered for the first time: The Caps once again were in the offensive zone and Patrick Antal scored with a shot from the face-off circle into the short corner to equalise. In the 45th minute, the home side finally turned the game in their favour when James Sheppard found the back of the net with a rebound. Although the visitors became stronger offensively, the score remained 2:1. With their first win of the season, the Viennese moved up to tenth place, while the league newcomers from Vorarlberg are now bottom of the league.
