It was a fast-paced game right from the beginning. After four minutes Mark Hurtubise and Ryan McKiernan both went to the sin bin. Just a few minutes later a second Caps player, Riley Holzapfel, received a penalty and Klagenfurt took advantage: Jamie Lundmark's shot slid in between Lamoureux' pads. Six minutes later Thomas Koch doubled the lead, the goal was a little similar to the first one. It was all Klagenfurt with Ziga Pance missing another chance for a third on power play. Soon later the puck was in the net but the refs made a "no goal" call after video review. One second before Brocklehurst could return to the ice, Matthew Neal finally put the hosts 3:0 up on a rebound. After the restart Klagenfurt had the better of the play, dominating for ten minutes. After the midway point of the game the visitors became better and Aaron Brocklehurst got his side on the scoreboard. Soon later Andreas Nödl missed the chance to make it a one-goal game while being one man down. The third period was a mere 75 seconds old when Klagenfurt restored the three-goal lead. First, Thomas Hundertpfund failed on a wraparound but Marco Brucker poked the rebound in. After this fourth goal against Lamoureux left his crease and David Kickert replaced him. Two minutes later Ryan McKiernan brought back hopes for the Caps with their second of the night. In further consequence both sides could not generated much and it lokked like Klagenfurt can run down the clock. With three minutes to go Caps coach Serge Aubin took a time out and pulled Kickert for a sixth skater. Jamie Fraser halved the deficit just 20 seconds later and it even became better for Vienna. In the final push Kelsey Tessier forced overtime and there the guests had the final say with Jerry Pollastrone decing the game. After winning the first away game of quarters and semis, the Caps also turned this one around for a 2:0 series lead.
