Capitals reach finals with game 7 win

For the third time in the club's history spusu Vienna Capitals won a playoff game 7 on Friday. Despite being down 1-0 early in the game, they beat EC Red Bull Salzburg 3:1 in front of a sold out home crowd. In Erste Bank Eishockey Liga finals Vienna faces EC-KAC who are qualified for the Champions Hockey League 2019/20 campaign. In addition, Bolzano and Graz announced transfer news.

Salzburg came out hard in the all decisive game 7. After only 60 seconds Dustin Gazley beat JP Lamoureux top shelf for the first Red Bulls lead in the semifinal series. Peter Schneider missed the only Caps chance in the opening period with Salzburg taking a well-deserved lead into the first intermission. After the restart the hosts became better but wasted some good chances. The guests tried to hit their opponents on breakaway but Mario Huber failed to score a second on the best opportunity. The third period was a mere 27 seconds old when Kelsey Tessier tied it on a rebound after a Dorion shot. After 48 minutes Benjamin Nisser turned the game around from close range. The fans in a sold out Erste Bank Arena saw a back and forth game with Salzburg trying everything to get the equalizer in a final push. With twelve seconds left Chris DeSousa made the game safe with an empty netter.

Grafenthin stays in Graz, Bardaro transfers to Bolzano
On Friday the Moser Medical Graz99ers announded the contract extension with Dominik Grafenthin. The 23 year old forward scored seven goals and ten assists in his debut season with the Styrians. In addition, HC Bolzano signed forward Anthony Bardaro. The 26 year old spent the last two years with Alps Hockey League club Asiago where he became the league's MVP once.
