Shortly before the transfer deadline that ends on Monday, the spusu Vienna Capitals strengthen their squad with US-American Grant Besse. After a very successful junior career, the Anaheim Ducks secured the rights to the power forward in the 2013 NHL Draft. However, he never played in the world's best ice hockey league. Instead, Besse proved his scoring instinct in the ECHL and AHL. The left-shooter broke the 60-point mark in both his seasons with the Norfolk Admirals (62 games, 30 goals, 32 assists) and the South Carolina Stingrays (60 games, 30 goals, 32 assists). In addition, the forward recorded nine points in 18 games in the AHL.

Promising European debut
In the last season, Besse came to Europe for the first time and showed that he could cope with the game on the larger ice surface. With 20 goals and 16 assists, the US-American became the third-best scorer in the service of the Krefeld Penguine (DEL). Having started the current season in Sweden's Allsvenskan with IF Björklöven, Besse is now chasing goals and points for the Caps. "Year after year, the spusu Vienna Capitals have a team that qualifies for the playoffs and then fights for the title there. I'm looking forward to playing my part," said Besse, who will wear number "94" for the Caps.

"Over the course of the season, we've had to deal with injuries on our offensive lines. The last few weeks in particular have shown how quickly key players can go down. Therefore, after intensive research, we have decided to strengthen our young squad, which includes eleven players who are 24 years old or younger, for the hot phase of the season. The signing of Grant Besse is therefore a precautionary measure with regard to the playoffs," Franz Kalla, General Manager of the spusu Vienna Capitals, explains the reasons for the action on the transfer market.
