Chad Krys went through the USA Hockey National Team Development Program at junior level and represented his country at several World Junior Championships. In 2015, Krys and his team were crowned U18 World Champions. A year later, the left-shooter secured third-place finishes with both the U18 and U20 teams. Also in 2016, the U.S. native was selected in the second round of the NHL draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. The Connecticut-born defenseman then joined the Boston University, for whom he played 105 games until 2019, scoring 58 points. Following his time at Boston University, Krys joined the Rockford IceHogs, the Chicago Blackhawks' AHL affiliate team. In December 2021, the defenseman was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Krys played 36 games for their AHL team, the Toronto Marlies. He played a total of 100 times in the American Hockey League, scoring 25 points.

"The opportunity to play for an organization like the spusu Vienna Capitals is very appealing to me, as is the prospect of living in such a beautiful city as Vienna. I'm a very mobile defenseman who can be quick at both ends of the ice, so I can help out in all phases of the game. I will do my best to make sure we can win a lot of games and go as far as possible in the playoffs. My expectations are very high," said Chad Krys.

"Chad is very good with the puck and can make plays under pressure. He is a very calm player. Although Chad has average size, he plays a very physical game. Fans will notice that he will hardly make any mistakes, he moves the puck easily and cleanly. Chad will give everything for his team. He's looking forward to coming to Vienna," said Caps Head Coach Dave Barr.
