The game started at eye level with Bolzano opening the scoring in 7th minute by Andrew Yogan. The hosts tried to hit back quickly, getting a couple of shots goalwards. Riley Holzapfel failed to score twice while the Foxes came close to score a second later in the first period. The visitors had a 1:0 lead after 20 minutes but lost top scorer Brodie Reid with a knee injury. The Caps had the better of the play at the beginning of the middle frame with Bolzano making some fouls. As a result the home side tied it on power play when Ryan Glenn deflected a pass by Kelsey Tessier into his own net, the foxes were two men down in this situation. Soon later Collin Bowman only struck metalwork while the Italians scored at the other end: Marco Insam finished a nice combination for their first postseason pp goal. In the third period the Viennese only needed ten minutes to turn the game around. First, Taylor Vause lit the lamp from the slot and eight minutes later Jerry Pollastrone struck with a shot into the far corner. Kelsey Tessier made the game safe with another pp marker for a 4:2 win.
