The spusu Vienna Capitals captured the second place in standings after defeating the Dornbirn Bulldogs 5:1. New signing David Åslin scored his first goal for the Caps after 105 seconds. The former chasing pack of leader Salzburg had to take defeats in the 29th round. The EC-KAC lost at Znojmo in spite of a race to catch up in the final period. The Moser Medical Graz99ers turned the game against the Liwest Black Wings Linz after trailing by two goals. The HC Tiroler Wasserkraft Innsbruck won the duel against Fehérvár AV19.
99ers turns home-game against Linz
After trailing 0:2 early, the Moser Medical Graz99ers turned their home-game against the EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz into a huge 6:2 home-win, with the home team won the third season meeting too. Both teams had new arrivals available to replace injured players. Linz got off a good start, leading 2:0 after the first. But the hosts increased their performance in the middle frame and dominated their opponent until the second intermission, with five unanswered goals. Joakim Hillding rounded off the score in the last with an empty netter, getting his second of the night. Despite the home win, Graz still trails seven points to the top five.
Znojmo wins against KAC to grab points in the eighth consecutive game
The HC Orli Znojmo cheered its first season win over EC-KAC, as the Czech side celebrated a 6:5 home-win to secure the fifth place in standings and grabbed points in the eighth consecutive game. While Klagenfurt had the better of the play at the beginning, the “eagles” became more effective in front of the net taking a 2:0 lead after the first. And Znojmo continued in the second, pulling away to a 5:1 respectively 6:2 lead about halfway through the game, as the “Rotjacken” started to catch up. Patrick Harand narrowed the deficit to win with about 23 seconds left, but they could not get it in overtime. After winning six in a row lately, the reigning champion lost its third game in a row, dropping to third place.
Bolzano wins persecutor clash in Villach
The HCB Südtirol Alperia snatched up a 4:1 road-win at EC Panaceo VSV to remain sixth in standings, trailing still one point in the race to the top five, while the “eagles” miss seven points to reach the pick round. After two losses, the “foxes” returned to winning ways, as they booked the first road-win after regulation since November 17th. Daniel Catenacci doubled up Bolzano’s 1:0 lead early in the second, as Martin Ulmer halved it later for the hosts. Non goals scored in the last until the final minutes. As Villach pulled their netminder, Jamie Arniel scored two empty netter to give the South Tyrolean a 4:1.
Innsbruck captures three points in Hungary
With a 3:1 road-win at Hydro Fehérvár AV19, the HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie” got the second season win over the Hungarian side to grab the second win in a row, while Fehérvár had to take the first defeat after two straight wins. After a balanced and non-goal opening frame, the guests managed to get two goals in the middle frame. After Bence Stipsicz pulled one back for the hosts in the last, Joel Broda got the preliminary decision for the “sharks” with 90 seconds left. Fehérvár trails eight points in the race to the top five.
Caps defeat „delayed“ Bulldogs
The game between the spusu Vienna Capitals and the Dornbirn Bulldogs started with a 30 minutes delay because of force majeure. The Caps capitalized on the long journey of the Bulldogs and started quick. New signing David Åslin needed 105 seconds only to score his first goal for the Caps. Vienna increased to 3:0, before Dornbirn scored the first goal still in the first period. The Capitals increased the lead to 5:1 in the second which was also the result of the game. With that win the Caps captured the second place standings, for the Bulldogs it was the fifths consecutive defeat.
