With zero points from three games, the spusu Vienna Capitals were already under pressure ahead of Saturday's encounter against HC TIWAG Innsbruck. For the first time, the Viennese team started Stefan Stéen, a Swede primarily signed for the Alps Hockey League, in goal. This tactical move by head coach Dave Barr seemed to work out well, as he did not concede a goal in the first two periods. However, the Viennese had a hard time on the offensive and could not overcome Sharks' goalkeeper Tom McCollum despite several power plays during that time. After 49 scoreless minutes, however, the knot burst for the Viennese: Danish newcomer Nikolai Meyer opened the scoring with his second goal of the season, giving momentum to their own offense. Suddenly, the Vienna power play seemed to work like clockwork. Less than 40 seconds after the opening goal, Matt Neal made it 2-0 in powerplay before Nikolaus Hartl - also on the power play - made the final score 3-0. Caps goalie Stéen promptly celebrated a shutout in his first appearance in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. With that, the Viennese captured their first three points in their fourth game of the season.

After the Caps opened the fourth round with a win against the Sharks, the round will be completed with six games on Sunday.
