In the only Saturday game of the win2day ICE Hockey League, the Vienna Capitals celebrated a 5–2 victory over HCB Südtirol Alperia. For the Capitals — who saw 20-year-old Felix Koschek score the game winner with his first goal of the season — it was their first away win after seven consecutive road losses. In the standings, Vienna drew level on points with tenth-placed Linz.

In a largely balanced first period, Bolzano took the lead in the 12th minute: after a costly defensive mistake by the Caps, Pascal Brunner netted his second goal of the season — just like his first, also against Vienna. Only 16 seconds later, Randy Gazzola answered for the visitors, firing the puck from behind the goal line off goaltender Harvey’s pads to make it 1–1.

Early in the middle frame, the Capitals went ahead for the first time when Zane Franklin broke free in front of the HCB net and picked the top corner with precision. The home side, however, made the most of the only power play of the night, as Brett Pollock tied the game at 2–2 after a perfect feed from McClure.

At the start of the final period, Bolzano had more of the play but failed to create real scoring chances. On the other side, 20-year-old Koschek restored Vienna’s lead in the 53rd minute by putting home a rebound. Soon after, Carter Souch extended the advantage to 4–2 on a fast break set up by Wallner. In the final minute, Linden Vey sealed the deal with an empty-netter to make it 5–2.

With the win, the Capitals are now tied on points with Linz. Kevin Constantine’s team continues its South Tyrol trip with a Sunday matchup in Bruneck.
