Caps sign Erik Kirchschläger

The spusu Vienna Capitals have signed Austrian defenseman Erik Kirchschläger to a contract running through the end of the 2025/26 season. After an extended injury-related absence, the 28-year-old is set to arrive in Vienna on December 2 and will be gradually integrated into the team. His debut in game action will follow after consultations with the coaching and medical staff.

Kirchschläger began his career in the youth program of the Steinbach Black Wings Linz, making his league debut in 2013 at just 17 years old. He won the Austrian U20 Championship with Linz in the 2014/15 season and became a key player for the team in the following years. During the 2017/18 season, he played in all 66 games and was named the league’s "Young Star of the Season."

In 2018, Kirchschläger joined the Moser Medical Graz99ers, where he laced up for 255 games and recorded 51 points as a dependable two-way defenseman. On the international stage, he represented Austria in 70 games, including the 2021/22 IIHF World Championship in Finland, where Austria secured its spot in the top division. After his most recent league appearance in November 2023, Kirchschläger is now ready to make his comeback and bring solid defensive presence to the Capitals’ blue line.
