Cavaliers tie quarterfinal series

The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers were Alps Hockey League’s lone team to equalize their quarter-final series on Thursday, as goalie Simone Pieti led the South Tyroleans to a 3-0 home win over the Red Bull Hockey Juniors with 30 saves.

In the other three pairings, the teams that won on Tuesday followed up with a victory: S.G. Cortina Hafro celebrated another clear victory in Merano (5-0), while the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan (4-3 OT) again needed overtime for the win thanks to a hat trick from James Livingston. The Rittner Buam SkyAlps also picked up their second win of the postseason after overtime.

Only the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers managed to equalize the series on the second quarterfinal gameday in the Alps Hockey League: The South Tyroleans beat the Red Bull Hockey Juniors 3-0 in front of their home crowd. Davide Girardi gave the Cavaliers an early lead with two goals in the ninth minute of the game. Goalie Simone Pieti then kept the game alive with his first shutout of the season (30 saves).

Cortina cheers another clear-cut win, posts shutout too
S.G. Cortina Hafro also clearly won its second quarterfinal against HC Meran/o, as the runners-up from the past season clearly won 5-0 on the road. Hyden Hawkey recorded his seventh shutout of the season with 21 saves. The visitors' special teams also excelled, as Traversa and Adami scored in the power play, and Adami once shorthanded.

Broncos again take win after overtime
The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan have also won their second game against EK Die Zeller Eisbären after overtime. The visitors prevailed 4-3 to take a 2-0 lead in the "best-of-7" series. In front of over 1,500 fans, the team from Sterzing first equalized a 0-1 deficit and then made up another two-goal deficit by the end. James Livingston (65./PP1) then netted the game-winner in the powerplay in extra session and ended up with a hat-trick.

The Rittner Buam SkyAlps also secured their second win in the quarter-final series against EC Bregenzerwald with an overtime victory. In front of almost 1,000 spectators, the game went into overtime tied 1-1 after both teams scored a goal each midway through the game. It took until the 76th minute before Eric Hjorth decided the game.
