EC-KAC wins last scrimmage before CHL-comeback
Before the EC-KAC heads into the Champions Hockey League season on August 29th (vs. Tappara Tampere at home), the reigning champion grabbed another preseason win and finished his preparatory campaign unbeaten. The Austrian side beat DEL-club Grizzlys Wolfsburg 3:1. While the German guests opened the scoring about halfway through the first on powerplay, Klagenfurt stroke back in the middle frame. Almost at the beginning of the second new arrival Manuel Ganahl tied it for the champion. Nick Petersen turned it around after 30 minutes and Marcel Witting doubled up about three minutes to go in the second. In the last the game remained goalless with the EC-KAC taking a 3:1 home win in the end.

VSV remains unbeaten too
The EC Panaceo VSV remains unbeaten too in this year’s preseason campaign, as the Carinthians celebrated a 2:1 win against seven-time Norwegian champion Stavanger Oilers at Maribor. Chris Collins, who hit the game winner in VSV’s first friendly at MAC Budapest, got his colors on the scoreboard after 13 minutes. Less than two minutes later the Oilers responded quickly and tied it up. In the second, the “eagles” had some good chances and were rewarded by Martin Ulmer, who took back the lead in the 38th minute. New netminder Brandon Maxwell and his defensive squad did a good job in the final frame and kept the result, winning 2:1 in the end.
