Release from 07.10.2021
With Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and EHC Lustenau, the two first pursuers of AHL leader Jesenice recorded victories on Thursday. While the Rittner Buam celebrated a big win in the Alps Hockey League top game against Zell am See, the Vienna Capitals Silver got their first season victory.
Red Bull Hockey Juniors - Steel Wings Linz 7:0 (1:0,2:0,4:0)
It has been a lopsided encounter between Salzburg and Linz over the last two years, with the Juniors winning all four previous AHL meetings by a score of 30:1 goals. That streak continued on Thursday. However, it took until the 20th minute when Luca Auer put the hosts in the lead. In the middle period, the Juniors extended their lead to 3:0 within 65 seconds and in the end, Salzburg even celebrated a 7:0 victory. Auer and Josef Eham scored twice for the now fifth-placed home side.
Vienna Capitals Silver - EC-KAC Future Team 3:1 (1:1,1:0,1:0)
The Klagenfurt side, who won all four AHL duels with the Silver Caps before that game, got off to a flying start and took the lead in the third minute through Stefan Klassek. However, it was to remain the only goal Stefan Steen conceded, the Vienna goalkeeper ended up with 44 saves. In the offensive, Alexander Maxa became the celebrated hero. The 22-year-old forward scored a goal in every period and led the Capitals to their first win of the season with his hat trick.
EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel - EHC Lustenau 3:4 OT (1:1,0:0,2:2,0:1)
In an even game, Kitzbühel took the lead, but the guests from Lustenau managed to equalise before the end of the first period. After a goalless middle period, the EHC pulled ahead to 1:3 through two Giftopoulos goals (they were the newcomer's first goals in the third game). But the Tyroleans did not give up and scored the equaliser 29 seconds before the end of regulation time through Raivo Freidenfels. In the overtime, however, Brian Connelly scored for the first Lustenau away win this season - the EHC is still in third place.
Rittner Buam - EK Die Zeller Eisbären 8:2 (1:0,5:0,2:2)
Nine days after the 6:1 against VEU Feldkirch, the Rittner Buam celebrated the next big win. After Jari Sailio scored the only goal in the first period, the home side went 6:0 up in the middle period - they scored five goals within nine minutes and ended the workday of EKZ goalie Dominik Frank, who was replaced by Matthias Tschrepitsch at 0:5. In the last period, Simon Kostner and Sailio each scored their second of the night. With the 8:2 victory, the Buam moved up to fourth place, while Zell am See slipped down to sixth.
HC Meran/o Pircher - S.G. Cortina Hafro 0:5 (0:0,0:2,0:3)
There were different signs before the first AHL duel between Meran and Cortina. Recently, the newcomer to the league climbed to eighth place with three wins, Cortina, on the other hand, had to admit defeat four times at home. But the team of head coach Ivo Machacka had the right answer this time. After an even first period, the visitors took command after the restart and got the lead through a power play goal by Ronny De Zanna. After Michael Zanatta (35th) increased it to 2:0, Cortina scored three more goals in the final period. Marco de Filippo Roja saved all 29 shots in the 5:0 win and celebrated a shutout. Cortina, now in eighth place, overtook league newcomer Merano (10th) in the standings.
Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey - HC Gherdeina valgardena.it 4:1 (2:0,1:1,1:0)
Only two days after the defeat in the top match against Jesenice, Asiago showed a solid performance at home against Val Gardena on Thursday. Already in the fifth minute the home side took the lead through Steven Iacobellis and Stefano Giliati (15th) added a second also on the powerplay. In the middle period Ville Korhonen pulled one back, but Giliati gave himself a present for his 34th birthday and restored the two-goal lead. In the final period, Val Gardena took full risk and pulled goalie Furlong for a sixth skater - Daniel Mantenuta ensured the 4:1 final score with an empty netter. The runner-up thus won the 15th of 18 AHL duels with Gardena and remains in second place.
