CHL away defeats for Graz and Salzburg

The Moser Medical Graz99ers fell 4-1 to Eisbären Berlin in their Champions Hockey League away game on Friday. EC Red Bull Salzburg lost 5-0 at Rögle BK. In preseason action, however, HC Falkensteiner Pustertal, the Vienna Capitals and HC TIWAG Innsbruck recorded wins.

In their first away game of the current CHL season, the Moser Medical Graz99ers left the ice in Berlin with a 4-1 defeat. The hosts applied pressure from the outset and deservedly secured the win. For Graz, Chris Collins scored on the power play to make it 3-1.

EC Red Bull Salzburg were beaten 5-0 away in the Champions Hockey League in Ängelholm against Rögle BK. The Salzburg side conceded four goals in the third period as they were clearly outplayed.

Preseason wins for Vienna, Pustertal and Innsbruck
The intra-league preseason matchup between Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and the Vienna Capitals remained scoreless for a long time. The Hungarians took the lead with two quick goals in the 47th and 48th minutes. Vienna showed character, however, equalizing within 87 seconds. In the shootout, Peeters and Kosmachuk scored to secure the Capitals’ victory.

HC Falkensteiner Pustertal delivered a strong performance at home against Red Bull München. Although the guests took the lead, Mantinger equalized still in the first period with a rebound. In the 47th minute, the Intercable Arena erupted again: Ierullo finished off a setup by Moncada to make it 2-1.

HC TIWAG Innsbruck celebrated a comeback win against EHC Olten. After a scoreless first period, the visitors took the lead in the middle frame. With the score tied 3-3, the game went to overtime, where Scherbak scored the game-winner for HCI.

Narrow preseason losses
At a tournament in Bremerhaven, Olimpija Ljubljana got off to a perfect start against the hosts, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period through goals by Jan Urbas and Žiga Jeglič. The DEL side turned the game around, however, winning 3-2. Ljubljana will play Esbjerg on Saturday for third place.

In an eventful game with several lead changes, EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV lost 5-4 to Augsburg after overtime. Despite holding a 3-1 lead after the first period, Pioneers Vorarlberg also fell 5-4 to HC Tigers.
