CHL: Clear defeat for Innsbruck in Munich

The HC TIWAG Innsbruck conceded the second defeat in the fourth game of the Champions Hockey League. At the German champion Red Bull Munich, the Sharks lost clearly with 2:9. As 15th in the table, the Tyroleans are still on course for the Round of 16.

At the Energie Steiermark Trophy, the Moser Medical Graz99ers were narrowly defeated by the HK Nitra from Slovakia with 1:2-OT. For the Styrians it was the fifth defeat in the sixth test match.

Munich, which celebrated its third win in the fourth CHL game, is in third place in the standings. The reigning German champions took the lead after just four and a half minutes. Just over a minute later, Innsbruck promptly equalized through Lukas Bär while shorthanded. Munich, however, managed to add two more goals in the first period and took a 3:1 lead.



A double strike at the beginning of the second period gave the Germans a 5:1 lead after 25 minutes, before Innsbruck reduced the score to 2:5 through Corey Mackin. It was already the fourth goal of the current CHL season for the US-American. Just over a minute later, Ben Smith made it 6:2 for Munich in the powerplay. In the 44th minute, it was again the US American who increased the score to 7:2 in the power play before Austin Ortega, who played in Salzburg in the 2020/21 season, scored another goal in overtime to make it 8:2. It was the second goal of the evening for the forward. The final goal was scored by Trevor Parkes four minutes before the end of the game. The Champions Hockey League continues on October 10 and 11 with the fifth matchday. Innsbruck will face Aalborg away from home (11.10. | 19:00).

Second defeat for Graz at Energie Steiermark Trophy
After the 0:3 defeat against Nürnberg on Friday, the Moser Medical Graz99ers were also defeated by HK Nitra from the Slovak Extraliga with 1:2 after overtime on Sunday in the Energie Steiermark Trophy. For the Styrians it was the fifth defeat in the sixth and last test match. On August 25, the 99ers won 3:0 against Nitra. In a very even match on Sunday, the Slovaks took the lead in the 15th minute through Jakub Lacka. The score remained 1:0 for the visitors until almost five minutes before the end of the game, when Patrik Kittinger scored on a rebound to equalize. Only a short time later Nitra had the great chance to take the lead again by penalty. But Lars Volden in the goal of the 99ers saved. Finally, the regular playing time ended with a score of 1:1. In the overtime it took about four minutes before the guests won the game.
